Gravitas Recruitment has been exclusively retained to recruit a Secretary / Sales Administrator for one of our clients based in Marsh Barton. This is a rare opportunity for the right candidate to join an established and successful local business with supportive and approachable directors.

The Company:

Stoneman & Bowker are currently celebrating their 52nd year of trading and are one of Exeter’s longest established house furnishers. They have been selling quality furniture in Exeter for many years and have built a reputation for excellent customer service.

From solid oak cabinets to high gloss Italian tables, Scandinavian leather swivel chairs to traditional sofas, mirror wardrobes to solid ash chests, pocket sprung beds to Tempur mattresses. Their soft furnishing department offers an enormous range of bespoke curtains and blinds, and their carpet & flooring department has the best carpet library selection in the area.

The Role:

The Secretary / Sales Administrator will be responsible for a wide range of duties including:

*         Managing customer’s orders: collating sales figures daily, monthly and annually, typing up hard copies, filing, updating information, ordering goods, liaising with sales staff and customers to arranging deliveries.

*         Taking incoming calls from customers and suppliers, actioning appropriately

*         Goods in: Booking goods into the system.

*         Monitor outstanding orders, checking acknowledgements have been received, chasing up suppliers.

*         Quotations: Typing up customer quotes and confirmations and forward to customers.

*         Producing customer invoices and processing payments and taking payments over the phone.

*         Opening and distributing mail daily, ordering office supplies.

*         Typing and sending correspondence.

The Candidate:

This is a family run business so finding the right personality to fit in with the small team is key, there is no hierarchy in this firm with everyone working as part of a friendly team. You must be approachable with a calm nature and the ability to get on with all levels of people.

This is a busy varied position which requires secretarial / office experience, good IT skills, and the ability to organise and prioritse effectively using your own initiative. You will be speaking with a lot of suppliers and customers by phone so a friendly engaging telephone manner is essential.

Whilst a retail background is desirable, applications are welcome from individuals from other industries with the relevant skills / experience and a proactive work ethic. In their words they are looking for ‘A nice person who has a lot of initiative’!

Hours: Full time permanent role working 9-5.30pm with 30 mins for lunch

Salary: £17,000 - £18,000pa, pension and free parking, 20 days’ holiday plus bank holidays.
